Replacement of boots and service of drum brake mechanisms of back wheels

Remember that the dust produced in the course of operation of brake mechanisms may contain extremely unhealthy asbestos of the person.

Do not blow off dust compressed air at all and do not inhale it, - at service of mechanisms put on a protective mask or a respirator.

Do not use for rubbing of components of the brake system gasoline or solvents on an oil basis at all, - apply only company cleaners or methyl alcohol!

Replacement of boots has to be made at the same time on both brake mechanisms.

In order to avoid confusion at assembly dismantle of brake mechanisms has to be made serially, - the second can be used as an example at assembly.

Along with replacement of brake boots also replacement of their coupling and directing springs which as a result of constant cyclic mechanical and thermal loadings stretch/sink over time has to be made, stopping developing the required effort that conducts to a prikhvatyvaniye of brakes and acceleration of wear of drums.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Weaken nuts of fastening of back wheels. A car back also establish to Poddomkratta it on props. Prop up forward wheels antiretractable boots. Remove wheels. Release the parking brake.
2. Remove the brake drum. If the drum "stuck" and does not give in to removal, process hairpins of its fastening and a flange of a half shaft the getting oil, then tap the outer edge of a drum the hammer. If the drum is still not removed, take a cap from a brake board and, having passed the screw-driver through a special opening, rotation of a cogwheel of the regulator weaken a clip of boots.
3. Carefully clean assembly of the brake mechanism with application of special means.
4. Carefully wipe the brake drum and check it for existence of cracks, furrows, cavities, signs of local overheats, estimate the size of ovality of assembly, in case of need give a drum to a pro-point. Or replace it.

Authors of the present manual recommend to make a pro-point of drums regardless of their state for the purpose of any removal of defects and elimination of ovality. If the pro-point of a drum cannot be made without violation of requirements to the maximum admissible internal diameter (it is beaten out on a drum), it is necessary to make its replacement.

If it is not possible to make a pro-point of drums, at least, carefully smooth out them working surfaces a fine-grained emery paper.

5. Disconnect springs and take off brake boots.
6. Estimate degree of wear of frictional slips, in case of need make replacement of boots.
7. Working in a similar manner, make service of assembly of the brake mechanism of an opposite wheel.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Establish into place brake boots. Restore initial connection of springs.
2. Several times move the executive lever of the drive of the parking brake back and forth and check freedom of rotation of the regulator.
3. Install into place the brake drum, several times squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake, then, rotating the screw-driver a regulator castor, slightly press boots to the surface of the reel, - there has to be a weakness in resistance to a provorachivaniye of the last. Turn a castor in an opposite direction, having released a drum. Muffle an opening in a brake board a rubber stopper.
4. Establish to the place of a wheel, lower the car on the earth and tighten wheel nuts with the required effort (see the Head Routine maintenance).
5. Check the adjusting provision of a pedal of a foot brake (see the Section System of Anti-blocking of Brakes (ABS) - the general information and diagnostic checks). Activation of self-regulators happens when braking of the car moving a backing. Before starting operation of the vehicle, make sure of serviceability of functioning of the brake system.
