Care of components of a body and bottom of the car

It is necessary to remember that the main factor determining the selling cost of the used car is the condition of its body. Procedures of care of body panels are extremely simple, but have to be carried out on a regular basis. Negligence to the smallest mechanical damages and defects of a paint and varnish covering can lead to bystry development of corrosion and need of performance of expensive body repair. It is also regularly important to check a condition of the surfaces and details hidden from a look, such as arches of wheels, lower part of partitions of a motive compartment, etc.

Basic procedure for care of a body of the car is its sink, preferably plentiful amount of water, given under pressure from a hose. Rather powerful stream easily softens and forces down the dried-up dirt and that is important, allows to avoid damage of a paint and varnish covering at friction about it separate grains of sand and other abrasive particles. Do not forget to wash out also arches of wheels and the bearing car bottom elements. Strangely enough, the best time for performance of a sink of elements of a suspension bracket and the bottom of the car is damp rainy weather when the most part of the accumulated mud deposits is washed away automatically during the movement. Try not to miss opportunities and, taking an opportunity, you make external survey of the components located under the car.

Once a year, or through each 20 000 km (12 000 miles) of a run it is necessary to make check of a condition of an anticorrosive covering of the bottom of the car. Previously it is necessary to subject the car bottom, including a motive compartment, to steam cleaning during which multilayered oil deposits, sticky slime and dense dirt especially well are removed. If the possibility of application of steam cleaning is absent, it is necessary to process by means of a brush surfaces one of a set of the solvents produced now which is subject to cleaning of components.

The last method should not be applied on cars which anticorrosive covering of the bottom has a wax basis.

Such annual survey of the car should be made before a winter season after a good soaking of mud and oil deposits in the conditions of the increased humidity, characteristic of autumn season.

The damaged anticorrosive covering has to be immediately restored. Ideally, once a year it is necessary to make full anticorrosive processing of the car at which the protective structure downloads in cavities of door panels, thresholds, box-shaped sections of the bearing body elements and other available volumes.

The last does not belong to the panels and sections subjected to full anticorrosive processing and sealed industrially.

Having completely washed away dirt from a paint and varnish covering, wipe the surfaces of body panels with soft suede, returning to polishing initial gloss. Processing of surfaces the polish containing wax provides additional protection of a paint and varnish covering against atmospheric actions and allows to restore locally lost polishing. Remember that tarnishing of a paint and varnish covering is most often connected with negligence to a regular wash of the car.

It is necessary to make wax polishing of body panels approximately time in half a year. Paint and varnish "metallic" coverings need special leaving with application of the special, not containing abrasives of polishes. Try to check regularly passability of drainage and air vents of body panels. Do not forget to wipe glasses from time to time, by means of the special cleaning structures deleting a road film from their surface. Do not use for processing of glasses the polishes containing wax or means for care of the chromeplated finishing elements at all.

Wash of the car

At a wash of the car of a brake can dampen. Thereof length of a brake way increases. Therefore it is necessary to move on the car with a moderate speed and to press slightly a brake pedal to dry brakes.

Do not wash a motive compartment and sites adjoining to it. If water gets to the inlet pipeline of the engine, on current carrying parts or to an oil tank of the power steering, it can result in malfunctions in operation of the engine and hydraulic booster.

The easiest way of preservation of an initial condition of the car is a regular care of it. It is necessary to wash the car at least once a month to exclude its pollution by road dirt.

Dirt is washed away by a wet sponge and plentiful amount of soap or cold water. Do not wash the car with warm water or under direct beams of the sun.

Salt, chemicals, insects, juice and bird's dung need to be deleted with soft solvent. At use of solvents be convinced that they are neutral detergents. The remains of water are removed a soft towel.

If you wash the car in car wash whether check it will do harm to your car. If the car is equipped with a back spoiler, then it can be damaged by brushes of the washing device or any other equipment.

Sink car bottoms

Chemicals, salt and funds for removal of ice from the surface of roads are extremely korrozionnoaktivny materials and accelerate corrosion of elements of the bottom of the car, such as muffler, fuel and brake pipelines, cables of brakes and wings, and also suspension bracket.

Therefore it is regularly necessary to wash out warm or cold water the internal surface of wings to reduce the destroying influence of the specified means.

Use of devices for a sink warm water

Support distance not less than 30 cm between a nozzle of the washing device and the car.

Do not wash too long same zone.

If any spot by means of the device is not removed, wash out it manually. Some devices for a sink work with warm water at high temperature and pressure that can lead to damage of details from plastic (for example, decorative levels) or to their deformation. Water can also get to an internal part of the car.

Waxing and polishing

Surely wash out the car before a covering its wax and polishing. Apply for this purpose polishing means and quality wax and follow recommendations of manufacturers of these materials. Cover the varnished surfaces of the car with wax and polish in a cold state.

Cover and polish both details the surfaces covered with chrome, and varnished. Loss of wax on the varnished surface leads to loss of initial gloss and aging of a surface. It is recommended to put, at least, once a month one layer of wax or in that case when the surface does not push away a water thaw any more.

If luster of the varnished surface or its color are damaged, and it is impossible to restore them by means of wax, the surface should be polished with fine-grained paste. Never polish only the damaged place, and process the places which are also adjoining to it. Polish surely only in one direction. It is recommended to polish with paste with grain No. 2000. More rough polishing means have lower number and can damage varnishing. After polishing put a wax layer to restore initial gloss. Keep in mind that frequent polishing or incorrect polishing can lead to removal of a varnish coat and to a primer exposure. In the presence of problems address to service of the SUBARU service or in special workshops on a covering of cars.

Cleaning of aluminum disks

Surely clear aluminum disks of dirt. If dirt remains on disks a long time, it will be difficult to be removed.

Do not apply to this purpose soap with grinding paste. Apply neutral detergent and plentifully wash out water. Do not clear wheel disks a rigid brush and do not apply for this purpose water under pressure.

Clear a body (including aluminum disks) water if it was affected by sea water, sea wind or moved on the roads salted or other means.

Purification of glasses of fog lights (if are available)

If for purification of glasses it is necessary to remove fog lights, follow the instructions provided in the Section Replacement of Lamps of lighting fixtures of the Head Onboard electric equipment.
For purification of protective glasses of fog lights park the car in the safe place, switch off the engine and check that protective glasses were not hot.

Anticorrosive protection

The SUBARU car is reliably protected from corrosion. Special materials and sheetings of the majority of details are for this purpose applied.

General causes of corrosion

Are the general causes of corrosion:

    Congestion of crude dirt in metal parts of a body, cavities and other details. Damage of a paint and varnish covering and other sheetings as a result of hit of splinters and stones, and also as a result of small collisions.
Corrosion is promoted by the following conditions:
    Influence of road salt or means of binding of dust. At the movement in the areas adjacent to the sea coast, the car is affected by the salt which is contained in sea air in industrial areas to impact of the pollution which are also contained in air. The movement in the area with the high content of moisture in air, especially if temperature is just above a freezing point. Preservation a long time of moisture in certain parts of the car, and at the same time other parts of the car remain dry. The high temperature promoting corrosion of elements of the car which owing to insufficient ventilation dry insufficiently quickly.
Protection against corrosion

The thicket needs to wash the car. At movement along the roads covered with salt, in the winter or near the coast it is necessary to wash out the car bottom regularly.

After the end of a winter season the bottom needs to be washed out carefully. Before a winter season it is necessary to check a condition of the parts located in the lower part of the car, for example, of system of release, fuel-supply lines and brake pipelines, brake drafts, suspension brackets, the steering device and wings. If any element strongly rusted, it is necessary to carry out the corresponding processing or to replace it. Carrying out similar works on service and the corresponding processing are carried out by service of the SUBARU service.

If in a paint and varnish covering there are splinters or scratches, they need to be eliminated at once.

Check the internal equipment of the car for existence of congestions of water and dirt under rugs as it can lead to corrosion. Check whether everything is dried up under rugs.

You hold your garage dry. Do not park the car in cheese, badly aired garage.

In such garage favorable conditions for corrosion are created if there the wash of the car is made and it is left on drying or in the winter from it snow is not removed.

If your car was operated in cold weather and/or in areas where there is a road salt or other catalysts of corrosion, it is regularly necessary to grease with lubricant door loops and locks, locks of a luggage carrier and a cowl.
