ECM is the electronic module on the basis of the microprocessor which on the basis of the analysis of the signals arriving from various information sensors exercises control of functioning of systems of injection, ignition and decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases.

The tasks which are carried out by ECM are among:
Management of fuel injection parameters; Management of ignition parameters; Management of functioning of the EGR system; Management of functioning of system of stabilization of turns of idling (IAC/ISC); Management of functioning of the EVAP system; Management of functioning of the fan of the cooling system; Management of functioning of the fuel pump; Self-diagnostics; Activation of emergency parameters of the failed subsystems.
When ECM develops output signals of the fixed level without the signals arriving from the oxygen sensor(s) say that the control system functions in the mode of "an open contour", i.e., without feedback. If the module begins to process information issued by oxygen sensor(s), then the mode becomes "closed" that allows the module to correct parameters of injection and ignition taking into account the current operational characteristics of the engine (turns, loading, temperature, …).

In memory of the module emergency values (values by default) the key working parameters of all subsystems of management are put. These parameters are activated in case of identification of refusal of the corresponding subsystem, providing adequacy of functioning of the engine (with inevitable loss of efficiency of return).

The refusal of any subject to monitoring from the block of self-diagnostics of a component is fixed in memory of the module in the form of the corresponding five-digit code which reading can be made by means of the special scanner (see the Section System of Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) - the principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions. Signals in chains of management).

Check

On all ESM models fastens under the dashboard on the right.

At the working engine sharply knock with finger-tips on a processor wall, - if ESM is faulty, percussion can lead to violation of stability of turns of the engine, at the same time on the display of the scanner connected to the OBD system the current data on characteristics of operation of the engine will be highlighted.

Before starting replacement of the module check serviceability of a state and reliability of fastening of contact connections of an electrical wiring of its chain. Each contact socket is painted in individual color that excludes probability of the wrong connection of an electrical wiring at the ESM installation. In the absence of obvious signs of violation of serviceability of functioning of ESM the car should be driven away on car repair shop for performing more detailed diagnostics of the module.

Replacement

The models of cars considered in the present manual are equipped with system of additional safety (SRS). Before starting performance of any works near the block of a safety cushion, a steering column or the dashboard, disconnect SRS in order to avoid getting injured at its casual operation (see the Head Onboard electric equipment) easy to distinguish the Electrical wiring of a chain of SRS on yellow color of isolation.

In order to avoid damage of ESM by the electrostatic category, try not to touch contact plugs of the module. Whenever possible you make self-grounding.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
2. Remove a forward overlay of a threshold of the right door.
3. Remove a carpet of a passenger foot well.
4. Turn out fixing screws and uncover the ECM block device which is on the right under the panel.
5. Remove a vinyl cover and give nuts of fastening of the ECM block to a basic arm.
6. Release ECM electrical wiring plait collar from a basic arm of ECM.
7. Disconnect an electrical wiring and remove ECM from a basic arm.

Installation is made upside-down
