Generator, general information, check and service

General information and principle of functioning

For a complete set of the considered models generators of alternating current, production of the Mitsubishi company are used. On type these generators belong to three-phase with the built-in rectifier. The design of the generator is presented on an accompanying illustration. Straightening of alternating current is carried out by means of the diode assembly consisting of four positive and four negative diodes. Exercises control of output tension of the generator the built-in regulator.

Mitsubishi generator design

1  —  the Forward cover
2  —  the Bearing
3  —  the Holder of the bearing
4  —  the Rotor
5  —  the Back bearing

6  —  the Pulley
7  —  the Stator
8  —  the Regulator of tension and brush assembly
9  —  the Rectifier
10  —  the Back cover

Continuous switching of a field winding of the generator the special transistor provides constancy of level of output tension of the generator.

For control of serviceability of functioning of the generator the chain of system of a charge included the control lamp which is a part of a combination of devices of the car. Treat number of the most typical refusals causing operation of a control lamp:
The generator ceased to give tension owing to wear of brushes, break of a field winding, etc.; Tension Given by the generator exceeds 16B; There was an electrical wiring detachment from the generator plug B; There was an electrical wiring detachment from the generator plug S, - in this situation the generator will give slightly increased tension, however the battery remains protected from a recharge due to correct functioning of the regulator of tension.
Check and service

Removal of the regulator of tension and diode assembly

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. If the back cover of the generator "stuck" and does not give in to removal after a reversing of coupling bolts, warm up it a soldering iron up to the temperature (50 ÷ 60) °C, - it has to help removal of a cover from the rotor bearing. Track that at removal of a cover the spring washer put in a bearing nest was not lost.
2. For an otdavaniye of a nut of fastening of a driving pulley it is necessary to clamp the stator in a vice with soft sponges.
3. After removal of a forward cover (see below) unsolder wires of diode assembly from stator windings, - try to perform this work as soon as possible in order to avoid an exit of diodes out of operation as a result of an overheat. Turn out screws of fastening of the regulator to a back cover and unsolder the socket located between the regulator and the rectifier. Remove tension regulator.
4. Having unsoldered wires, remove brushes.
5. Release a fixing nut, take the isolating plug and remove diode assembly.

Diode assembly

Check of serviceability of a condition of the positive diode

1  —  a diode Conclusion
2  —  the Case (radiator)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Connect the positive probe of an ohmmeter to a diode conclusion, negative - to a radiator of diode assembly, - the device has to register the zero indication. At change of polarity of connection of an ohmmeter conductivity has to disappear.
2. When checking the negative diode conductivity has to take place only in the direction from the case to a diode conclusion.
3. For check of diode assembly remove it from a back cover of the generator and serially check an ohmmeter conductivity of each of three diodes, - conductivity has to take place only in one direction. If any of diodes passes current in both directions, or does not pass it at all, all diode assembly is subject to replacement.

Rotor

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Attentively examine a working surface of a contact ring on existence of chips, roughnesses, zadir and traces of a podgoraniye. Insignificant defects can be eliminated by processing of a surface with a fine-grained emery paper. At detection of ineradicable defects the ring/rotor is subject to replacement.
2. By means of a caliper measure diameter of a contact ring. If the ring is worn out over an admissible limit (see Specifications) replace rings, or a rotor.
3. Check resistance between contact rings of a rotor, - the required value makes about 3 Ohms. At noticeable deviations of resistance from nominal rate the rotor is subject to replacement. Also check assembly for existence of conductivity between each of contact rings and a rotor core/shaft. Conductivity existence (the zero indication of an ohmmeter) demonstrates formation of short circuit in a winding of a rotor and/or on a contact ring. The faulty rotor is subject to replacement.

Stator

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Make sure of lack of conductivity between windings and the core of the stator.
2. Between conclusions of windings conductivity, on the contrary, has to take place.
3. In case of identification of signs of short circuit or break in windings the stator is subject to replacement.

Brushes

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Brushes are subject to replacement at wear to length below 5 mm. Degree of wear of a brush can be defined also by means of a special tag as which the lower bound of a logo of the Mitsubishi company serves. For extraction of a brush from the holder it is necessary to unsolder the electrical wiring which is built in in it from the contact plug.
2. Fill a brush in the holder so that its end acted on 2 mm and measure effort of compression of a brush spring, - if the result of measurement makes less than 1.8 N, the spring is subject to replacement.

The effort of compression of a new spring leaves 3.3 ÷ 4.1 N.

Bearings

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Manually estimate smoothness of rotation of bearings. In case of need make replacement.
2. The back bearing is taken by means of a usual stripper.
3. For replacement of the forward bearing remove it the holder, establish a suitable mandrel on an internal holder, then squeeze out the bearing by means of a press or a vice.
