Traction relay

The checks described below have to be made at strictly stipulated tension! Duration of each check should not exceed 5 seconds!

Check of the involving winding of the traction relay of a starter

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect an excitement winding wire from the plug C.
2. Connect the battery directly to the traction relay of a starter and make sure of serviceability of a vydviganiye of the leading gear wheel of a starter. If the gear wheel does not move forward, replace the relay.
3. For check of the holding winding of the relay collect a chain according to the scheme described above, and after promotion of a gear wheel disconnect a negative wire from the plug C, - the gear wheel has to remain in the put-forward situation. If there is a retraction of a gear wheel, replace assembly of the traction relay.
4. At a detachment of a negative wire from the relay case the gear wheel, on the contrary, has to be involved.


Performance data of a starter

For ensuring the guaranteed start of the engine in any weather conditions the starter needs to develop high turns of rotation and rather big torque. The listed characteristics to a great extent depend on the level of a charge of the rechargeable battery in view of what check of a starter has to be made with use of the battery which is completely meeting for the performance data the requirements of Specifications.

Check of a starter is made in three modes (see further).

Test without loading

Connect the rechargeable battery meeting for performance data the requirements of Specifications to the starter disconnected from the engine and measure the rotation frequency, tension and current of a starter. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications.

Test under loading (the recommended method)

During this test check of the torque developed by a starter is made. Check is made at the special test bench, the equipped device for applying of brake effort. Compare results of measurement to requirements of the Specification.

Test under loading with applying of the brake moment (an alternative method)

Check is made on the same, as earlier test bench in which the anchor of starter assembly is blocked this time. During check measurement of control parameters is performed, - compare results of measurements to requirements of the Specification.

Low frequency of rotation, or excessive current can be a consequence of the raised internal component of friction of a starter as a result of the wrong assembly of its components.


Service

Dismantling

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect an electrical wiring from the traction relay of a starter.
2. Turn out coupling bolts from a cover of the case of starter assembly.
3. Separate the traction relay from the stator.

4. Turn out screws fixing screws and uncover the stator.

5. By means of flat-nose pliers delay up a spring from the party (+) brushes and accurately take the last from the brush holder, - try not to damage a brush and a collector.

6. Take an anchor from the stator.

The anchor has considerable weight, - try not to drop it in the course of extraction!

7. Turn out fixing screws and separate the traction relay from the case.

8. Take the coupling from the case and shake out from it a steel ball, - try not to lose a ball.

9. Release an intermediate gear wheel from the case.
10. Take from the case the holder and a cylindrical pin, - try not to drop components.
11. Remove a spring from the traction relay.

Anchor

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Using a special tester for identification of short-circuited rounds, check anchor windings for existence of signs of short circuit between collector lamels. If short circuit takes place, then current in the device will alternate with the return current, and the winding of an anchor will be magnetized. A sign of magnetization of a winding is vibration of the metal plate brought to the checked site.
2. Check for breakdown isolation between a collector and the core of an anchor, - the measured resistance has to make not less than 10 megohms.
3. Measure by a caliper the external diameter of a collector. Compare result of measurement to requirements of the Specification.
4. Lay an anchor in V-shaped prisms and by means of the dial measuring instrument of plunger type estimate the size of a radial beating of a collector. In case of need give assembly to a pro-point.

5. Check depth of undercutting of isolation between lamels, - if the result of measurement appears below admissible value (see Specifications) make the corresponding adjustment, having used a hacksaw cloth for this purpose.

Before check it is necessary to remove completely from a surface of windings coal powder and other deposits.

Minor defects can be removed from a collector surface by processing of its fine-grained emery paper.


Bearing

Manually check smoothness of rotation of the bearing, in case of need make replacement.

Stator

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. By means of an ohmmeter check a winding of excitement of the stator.
2. Measure the residual length of coal brushes, - if it decreased more than on 1/3 from nominal rate (see Specifications) brushes are subject to replacement.

Brush holder

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. By means of an ohmmeter measure resistance of isolation of the brush holder.
2. If the result of measurement makes less than 10 megohms, replace the holder.

Obgonny coupling

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check freedom of rotation of the obgonny coupling in the direction clockwise. Counterclockwise the coupling should not rotate.
2. Attentively examine working surfaces of teeths of the leading and parasitic gear wheels, and also gear wheels of the obgonny coupling. At identification of chips or signs of excessive wear the obgonny coupling is subject to replacement assembled, - in parallel it is necessary to study a condition of a gear wreath of a flywheel.

Assembly of a starter is made as it should be the return to an order of dismantle of components. Pay attention to the next moments:
    Before assembly grease the corresponding components in points - use ESSO BEACON 325 or SHELL ALVANIA GREASE RA lubricant; At assembly of the traction relay and obgonny coupling the coupling is installed on the relay before an intermediate gear wheel (do not forget to establish a steel ball and a spring, put the bearing on an intermediate gear wheel in advance); When landing anchor assembly in the stator do not forget to put on an anchor shaft behind the bearing a felt washer at once; Assembly of the brush holder on the stator is made according to the data given on an accompanying illustration; At installation to a cover of the stator track correctness of combination of its gear part with the plug of a conclusion through passage of an electrical wiring; At installation on the stator of the traction relay track correctness of combination of a tag on the stator with a reciprocal ledge on the relay.
