On the vehicles equipped with the brake system of usual type, sharp squeezing of a pedal of a foot brake leads to blocking of wheels. At the same time coupling of a protector with a paving is broken, and the car can start to skid, losing controllability. The system of anti-blocking of brakes (ABS) prevents premature blocking of wheels, continuously operating the speed of their rotation during braking due to modulations of pressure of hydraulic liquid in each of brake mechanisms. Are among the main ABS components: four wheel sensors, four rotors of wheel sensors, assembly the control unit (ECU) with the hydraulic modulator, the G sensor (the sensor of overloads), the sensor switch of stoplights and a control lamp of ABS.

Control unit and hydraulic modulator

The ABS control unit which is built in in assembly of the hydraulic modulator traces the speed of rotation of each of car wheels, being guided by the arriving signals from wheel sensors. When at emergency braking any of wheels it begins to be blocked prematurely, the module of management issues the command for activation of the hydraulic modulator of the electromagnetic valve placed inside which, working, opens the respective site of a brake contour, releasing from it a part of hydraulic liquid in the tank and, respectively, reducing working pressure. As soon as speeds of rotation of wheels are equalized, the valve is closed again and pressure continues to rise. The cycle lasts fractions of a second on each of wheels and repeats until braking is not complete. The design of system allows to correct pressure in hydraulic contours of each of four wheels. Actually the scheme of functioning of ABS is much more difficult, than it can seem therefore authors of the present manual do not recommend to owners of cars to make attempts of independent performance of repair of system. In case of malfunctions it will be most reasonable to address specialists of car service.

Wheel sensors and their rotors

Each of wheels is equipped with the individual RPM meter. The sensor consists of a rotor (a ring with the teeth which are evenly located on its perimeter) and a sensitive element in the form of the podmagnichenny coil. The sensitive element of the sensor fixes the moments of passing of rotor teeths by it and will transform the obtained information to electric signals, control of ABS which are continuously transferred on the module. By results of processing of the arriving signals of ECU obtains information on the relative speed of rotation of each of wheels. While all four wheels rotate with an identical frequency, ABS stays in a passive state. As soon as any of wheels begins to be blocked, the control unit fixes change of the entering signal and develops the command for operation of the modulator which is instantly dumping pressure of hydraulic liquid in the brake mechanism of the corresponding wheel.

Sensor switch of stoplights

On the signals arriving from the sensor switch of stoplights, ECU defines the moment when the driver squeezes out a pedal of a foot brake, at once activating ABS.

Diagnostics and recovery repair

The special control lamp located on an instrument guard of the car notifies on refusals of ABS of the driver. As soon as ECU elicits the violation fact in system, it makes its shutdown. The brake system continues to function at the same time in the usual mode. Diagnostics of a condition of ABS is made every time at start of the engine and is followed by short-term operation of a control lamp. within a short period of time after start the lama has to be disconnected automatically.

If the control lamp of ABS lights up and continues to burn during the movement, first of all make sure that the parking brake is completely released, and the brake system functions regularly. If all are normal. Therefore, there was ABS refusal. First of all make the following elementary checks:
Check a condition of brake supports and wheel cylinders; Check a state and reliability of fastening of contact sockets of an electrical wiring of ECU and wheel sensors (see the Head Onboard electric equipment). Check the corresponding safety locks (see the Head Onboard electric equipment).
The control lamp of ABS does not light up at inclusion of ignition

The scheme of an arrangement of contact plugs in the B100 socket (in the F2 socket of the plug are located specularly)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Try to include ignitions, without making start of the engine, - if the other, being a part of a combination of devices control lamps work regularly, pass to the following stage of check, otherwise it is necessary to make the necessary recovery device of an instrument guard.
2. Switch off ignition. Remove a combination of devices and check a condition of a control lamp of ABS. In case of need replace a lamp and repeat check.
3. If a lamp as it should be, disconnect the contact B100 socket (blue color) from the F2 socket located at the left under the dashboard. Include ignition and measure tension between the weight and the plug 8 of the B100 socket. 3. Switch off ignition and check serviceability of a condition of contact sockets for combinations of devices, - if signs of violation of reliability of contacts are absent, replace assembly of ECU ABS with the hydraulic modulator.

The control lamp of ABS is not disconnected after start of the engine

At an electrical wiring detachment from the ABS control unit the sensor switch which is a part of a block closes a contour between socket plugs 31 and 23, at the same time there has to be an operation of a control lamp of ABS.
