Check of effort of rotation of the steering mechanism

1. Tire out the car on the flat horizontal platform with a concrete covering, leave the engine working at single turns. 2. Check of effort of a provorachivaniye of a steering wheel is made by means of a spring dynamometer (steelyard). The result of measurement should not exceed values of 3 kgfs in both directions of rotation. 3. Repeat measurement at the killed engine, - the effort of a provorachivaniye has to increase approximately by 10 times (no more than 30 kgfs). 4. In case of negative results of checks it is necessary to make adjustment of a side play of gearing of rack transfer (see the Section Adjustment of a Side Play of Gearing of Rack Transfer). 5. If adjustment of rack transfer does not lead to correction of a situation (by results of repeated check), disconnect the cardan hinge from a steering column, - now the effort of a provorachivaniye has to make no more than 0.23 kgfs, otherwise it is necessary to check a state and reliability of fastening of tips of steering drafts and spherical support of a suspension bracket. Make sure also that the cardan hinge is not jammed. |
| 6. Remove assembly of the steering mechanism (see the Section Removal and installation of the steering mechanism) and measure effort of a provorachivaniye of its entrance shaft at the disconnected cardan hinge. The result of measurement should not make more than 1.3 kgfs. |

| 7. Remove internal tips of steering drafts and by means of a spring dynamometer measure resistance of sliding of a lath. The result of measurement should not exceed value in 31 kgfs, and the difference between measurements at a lath pulling diversely also should not go beyond a limit in 20%. |
